NELLIE M. (CURLESS) McKINLEY RUTH

Nellie Ruth

Nellie M. Ruth, 94, of DeKalb, formerly of Astoria, died at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at Pine Acres Care Center in DeKalb.

She was born July 22, 1905, in Fulton County, a daughter of Hugh and Susie Farwell Curless. She married Clarence McKinley in 1922. She later married Harve S. Ruth on Jan. 17, 1934, in Canton. He died July 13, 1975.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, one sister and two step-grandsons.

Surviving are one daughter, Betty (Robert) Rhoades of DeKalb; three stepdaughters, Wanda Fouts of Metamora, Betty Brown of Chillicothe and Maxine (Herman) Smith of Alta Loma, Calif.; two brothers, John Curless of Astoria and Ted Curless of Pekin; five sisters, Opal Schisler and Myrna Phillips, both of Astoria, Edith Lee and Doris Robertson, both of Ipava, and Olive Howe of Havana; one grandson; five step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was a clerk at Montgomery Ward and Bimrose Furniture, a cashier at Lehan Drugs and was co-owner of the Personality Shop, all in DeKalb.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home with Rev. Collis Trone officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Astoria Township Cemetery Association or the Woodland Cemetery.
