Hugh Curless, 93 Dies In Hospital

Hugh Curless, 93, of rural Astoria died at 12:25 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 1982, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.

Born June 9, 1888, in Woodland Township, he was the son of Edmond and Nora (Fisher) Curless. He married Susie Farwell on Jan. 1, 1905. She died July 25, 1969.

He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Nellie Ruth of DeKalb, Mrs. Opal Schisler and Mrs. Myrna Phillips, both of Astoria, Mrs. Edith Lee and Mrs. Doris Robertson, both of Ipava, and Mrs. Olive Howe of Havana; three sons, William and John, both of Astoria, and Ted of Peoria; one sister, Mrs. Maye Hamm of Astoria; 25 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 20 great, great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Marbletown United Brethren Church.

Also preceding him in death were one sister, two brothers, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Collis Trone officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Summum.
