Myrna PhillipsMyrna I. Phillips, 90, of Astoria died at 1:20 p.m. March 4, 2019, at Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center in Cuba.

She was born April 17, 1928, in Astoria, a daughter of Hugh and Susie Farwell Curless. She married Medford S. Phillips on Dec. 25, 1948, in Astoria. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1995.

She also was preceded in death by one grandson, Nathan Hazzard; two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Reese Carithers; five sisters, Opal Schisler, Nellie Ruth, Olive Howe, Nora Curless and Edith Lee; and four brothers, John, Jack, Ted and Bill Curless.

Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Carithers of Astoria and Nicki (and Richard) Hazzard of Lewistown; one sister, Doris Robertson of Ipava; five grandchildren; one step grandchild; 10 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and 10 step great-great-grandchildren.

She worked at Astoria Fiber Steel Plant and DANA Corporation in Havana.

She was a farm wife who raised chickens and miniature horses. Her greatest achievement, besides her family, was passing the GED exam at age 70. Then, in her retirement, she worked as a kindergarten aid and also helped her grandson at the family orchard. She also was a seamstress and quilt maker.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Gary Sheets officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Astoria Cemetery, Mt. Zion Cemetery or the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
