William E. Curless, 82, of Astoria, died at 2:40 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born April 19, 1916, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, a son of Hugh and Susie Farwell Curless.

Surviving are six sisters, Myrna Phillips and Opal Schisler, both of Astoria, Doris Robertson and Edith Lee, both of Ipava, Olive Howe of Havana and Nellie Ruth of DeKalb; and two brothers, John Curless of Astoria and Ted Curless of Pekin.

One sister and one brother preceded him in death.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Ipava American Legion Post 17 for 51 years. He was a coal and copper miner in Illinois and Arizona and later was a farmer until retiring.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Collis Trone officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services at the memorial home. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
