MEDFORD S. PHILLIPS

Medford S. Phillips, 70, of Astoria, died at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1995, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Schuyler County, a son of Pete and Emma Bradman Phillips. He married Myrna Curless on Dec. 25, 1948, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy Carithers of Astoria and Nicki Hazzard of Lewistown; five grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; three step-great-granddaughters; two brothers, Arthur of Eureka and Burtton of East Moline; and three sisters, Zoe Ann Humphrey of Rushville, Bernice Parr of Bradley and Neda Colston of Fenton, Mo.

He was preceded in death by one grandson.

He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 21 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1991. A bus driver for Astoria Community School District for 10 years, he was a substitute driver at the time of his death. He also was a self-employed farmer and carpenter. A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Funeral services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Collis Trone and Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Graham Hospital Hospice Program or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
