Vilda Poppenhager Dies At Age 62

Mrs. Vilda R. Poppenhager, 62, of Astoria, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1976, at Beardstown Hospital.

She was born Jan. 31, 1914, in Fulton County, the daughter of Fenton and Edna Beadles Gilson. On June 20, 1934, at Palmyra, Mo., she was married to Orlen Poppenhager, who survives.

Other survivors include her mother, Mrs. Edna Gilson of Galesburg; three sons, Phillip Poppenhager, Steve Poppenhager, and Jeff Poppenhager, all of Astoria; six daughters, Mrs. Linda Easley and Mrs. Barbara Brown, both of Astoria, Mrs. Carol Davis of Galesburg, Mrs. Rosemary Leto of Woodridge, Mrs. Nancy Pressler of Springfield and Mrs. Patsy Miller of Marissa; three brothers, Eugene Gilson of Macomb, Gerald Gilson of Galesburg and Jerry Gilson of Bader; four sisters, Mrs. Verna Ward of Peoria, Mrs. Betty Sundberg and Mrs. Jacqueline Toland, both of Galesburg, and Mrs. Janice Abel of Victoria; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Max, two brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Poppenhager was a retired bookkeeper and U.S. Postal Service clerk. She was a member of Astoria Chapter No. 144, Order of Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Collis Trone officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.
