VeteranEugene Gilson Dies At Age 71

Eugene Gilson, 71, of 3 Canyon Drive, Macomb, died at 4:25 p.m. Friday, Mar. 3, 1989, at his residence.

He was born Mar. 29, 1917, in Fulton County, a son of Fenton and Edna Beadles Gilson. He married Julia Beam in 1937. He later married Mary Schramm Stoneking on Nov. 2, 1962, in Macomb. She died April 2, 1986.

He also was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Jean) Shumard of Galesburg; three granddaughters; one great, great-granddaughter; two brothers, Gerald Gilson of Galesburg and Jerry Gilson of Bader; and three sisters, Mrs. Verna Ward of Peoria, Mrs. Betty Sundberg of Galesburg and Mrs. Jacqueline Toland of Knoxville.

He was owner and operator of the Hammond Organ Studios in Macomb for 15 years. He was a past Macomb city alderman and a charter member of the Macomb Lions Club. He was a member and organist of the Macomb Elks Lodge 1009, and a World War II Air Force veteran.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sargent-Worthington Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. James Stovall officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Elks Crippled Childrens Fund or the Macomb Lions Club.
