EMALINE (LAU) HAFFNER

Emaline Haffner

Emaline Lau died suddenly at her home in Browning Monday, Feb. 8 after a short illness. Her death came as a shock to her many friends as very few knew of her serious illness.

The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Lau and was born in York county, Pa., April 2, 1852. She was the oldest one of a family of twenty, two dying in infancy, nine of whom are living, namely, Mrs. Jane Hoke of Ipava, Mrs. R. C. Ruby and John Lau of Table Grove, Mrs. Ida Derry, Frank Lau and Edmond Lau of Summum, Mrs. Cass Marquis, E. G. Lau, Mike Lau, all of Astoria.

Mrs. Lau came to this state with her parents in 1865 and was one of the early settlers of Fulton county, locating in Astoria. On Oct. 4, 1871 she was united in marriage to Henry Haffner, who preceded her to the great beyond April 4, 1911. To this union were born ten children, two dying in infancy. Those living are: Mrs. Lillie Park, Frederick, Fred of Bader, Ida, who resides at home, Mrs. Cora Robinson, Mrs. Pearl Bates, Mrs. Mable Geer, Charles and Ray all of Browning. There are 29 grandchildren left to mourn the loss of the dear one who has ever been the sunshine of the home. She was of a kind and sympathetic nature. Always was willing to aid in what way she could. Not only will the sorrowing family, but many friends will miss the kind and loving friend.

[Laura’s notes: her husband’s name was Samuel Henry Haffner, whose obit we have on file. Not sure why this obit calls her “Mrs. Lau”. Also, in other records her first name is spelled "Emmaline". In addition, it looks like daughter Cora's married name was actually Robertson, not Robinson.]
