IDA MAHALA (LAU) DEARY

Summum Woman Died Thursday

Mrs. Ida Deary, Aged 76 Years; Funeral Services Held Saturday

After having spent a long and useful life in the community in which she was born, the messenger of death removed from our midst Mrs. Ida Deary, the last daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmanuel Lau.

Mrs. Deary was born in Woodland township, Fulton county, April 24, 1865, and passed away at her home in Summum, Thursday, at the age of 76 years and 21 days.

On Sept. 14, 1884, the deceased was married to Edwin V. Deary, to which union a large number of children were born. Those surviving are: Mrs. Hattie Weese, Mrs. Emma Ward, Mrs. Jennie Raker, and Mrs. Geneva Trone, all of Summum, Mrs. Mary Wilson and Mrs. Phyllis Quigley of Lewistown, and Mrs. Doris Danner of Astoria. A son, William, about five years ago, and a daughter, Alice Trapp, about three months ago, preceded their mother in death. Mrs. Deary leaves to mourn her loss, 36 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, five brothers, Michael, Edward and Emmanuel of Astoria, Frank of Canton, and John, of Peoria.

Mrs. Deary became a member of the Christian church early in life. Her life was characterized by years of loving service and devotion to those of her family and friends. To say that she will be greatly missed, is expressing it too mildly. Her goodness in her daily life helped many to enjoy the brightening influence ever present with her. All those closely associated with her recognized the beautiful traits that were always a source of comfort and cheer. Her motherly and wifely devotion will long linger in the minds of her relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Christian church in Summum. J. T. Sapp, a lifelong friend was the officiating minister. Mrs. Oresco Shield and Mrs. Nellie Mummert sang, with Mrs. Orval Baker at the piano. Burial in the Summum cemetery.
