Well Known Man Found Dead In Bed Sunday

Emanuel G. Lau was found dead in bed at 5:30 o’clock Sunday morning by his niece, Miss Wilma Seymour, with whom he made his home. Death was due to heart failure. He had been in fairly good health and his death came unexpectedly. He was aged 84 years, 2 months and 18 days.

Mr. Lau was born July 26, 1862 in York County, Pa., a son of Emanuel and Caroline Geipe Lau. He married Anna Keller, who died March 29, 1931. Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Mabelle Nichols of St. Louis; and the following nieces and nephews: Miss Wilma Seymour of Astoria, Mrs. Jennie Raker, Arch Seymour of Biggsville and Emanuel Seymour of Adair. They were taken into the Lau home and raised by them. He is also survived by three brothers, Frank, Mike and Edward Lau of Astoria.

Mr. Lau came to Illinois when he was six years old and located near Astoria and for a number of years was engaged in farming. He united with the German Reformed church when a child.

Coroner Lester Lambert of Canton conducted an inquiry into his death Sunday evening at 5 o’clock at the Shawgo Memorial Home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Shawgo Memorial Home, conducted by Rev. G. G. Canfield, pastor of the Church of the Brethren. Burial was made in the Woodland Cemetery.
