Caroline Lau, 43, of Summum died Jan. 5, 1878, in Fulton County.
She was born Jan. 15, 1835, in Codorus County, Pa., a daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Gipe. She married Emanuel Lau in 1853 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in York, Pa. He survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Emaline, Alice Jane, Matilda, Ida Mahala and Catherine; and five sons, Emanuel Jr., Franklin, John Oliver, Michael C. and Edmond.
She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Clinton, and a daughter, Elizabeth, both in infancy.
She and her husband Emanuel Sr., along with four of their children, moved from York, Pa., to Astoria, Fulton Co., Ill., in February 1865. The family lived in Astoria until 1869, when they moved to a farm near Summum.
