Last Rites Held For Mrs. Cassie Marquis

Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Marquis, who died last Wednesday morning at her home in the northwest part of town, were conducted at 2:30 o’clock Friday afternoon at the residence, Rev. Fred Thompson, officiating. Burial in Astoria cemetery.

She had been ill one week, death being attributed to complications.

Mrs. Catherine (Lau) Marquis, daughter of Emanuel and Caroline (Gipe) Lau, was born near Astoria, Nov. 13, 1869. She was married June 13, 1888 to James Marquis, who passed away June 28, 1933.

To this union was born five children, three of whom are deceased.

Surviving are two sons, Carl and Roy, both at home, also the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Matilda Ruby, Adair; Mrs. Ida Deary, Summum; E. G. Lau, Ipava; M. C. Lau, Woodland township; Frank and Ed Lau, Astoria, and John O. Lau of Peoria.

Deceased confessed her Savior early in life and became a member of the Christian church at Rushville. She was a good neighbor and leaves many friends, together with her relatives, to mourn her departure.
