James Marquis, Life Long Astoria Resident, Dies

James Marquis, a life long resident of Astoria, died at his home in the northwest part of town this morning, following an illness of about four years duration.

The deceased was born near Bader, January 27, 1857. At the time of his death he was aged 76 years, 5 months and 1 day. Besides his aged wife, he is survived by two sons, Carl and Roy, both at home. Also three brothers, Douglas of Cuba, John of Pleasantview and Sing of Astoria, and five sisters, Mrs. R. W. Rockwell and Mary Marquis of Astoria, Mrs. Dan Miller, Oregon, Ill., Mrs. James Fulk, Canton and Mrs. W. S. Kraut of Galesburg.

Mr. Marquis was a highly respected citizen and for fifty years followed the occupation of coal mining. He was devoted to his family and was a good neighbor and enjoyed the confidence of a wide circle of friends.

Funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home conducted by Rev. Fred Thompson. Interment in the Astoria cemetery.
