VeteranAstoria Resident Dies In Canton Hospital

Carl J. Marquis, 67, a resident of Astoria for the last 60 years, died about 2 p.m. yesterday at Graham Hospital in Canton, a few hours after he was admitted to the hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Marquis will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with the Rev. J. H. Ruberg officiating. Burial will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home till the hour of services except between noon and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Marquis was born Oct. 17, 1892, in Rushville to James and Katherine Lau Marquis. He was a veteran of World War I. He never married. Mr. Marquis was a retired coal miner.

One brother, Roy, of Astoria, survives. Two brothers and one sister died previously.

Additional info from Lonnie: Carl died Dec. 10, 1959. He was a corporal in the 11th 4th ret. WWI, and was a POW.
