Delbert FairburnDelbert L. Fairburn, 90, of Astoria died at 6 a.m. Jan. 8, 2018, at his home.

He was born April 16, 1927, in Canton, a son of Terrance Adam “Tom” and Nellie Pearl Weaver Fairburn. He married Mary Coita Groff on June 2, 1948, in Canton. She preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2014.

He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille (and Bruce) Lingenfelter, Leona (and Cecil) Boyer and Marie (and Ernie) Hallum; four brothers, Hubert (and Bernice) Fairburn, Merle (and Modelle) Fairburn, Dwayne (and Esther) Fairburn and Roland “Breezy” Fairburn; one grandson, Blake Westlake; and one honorary daughter, Janet Kirby.

Surviving are four daughters, Deborah (and John) Lopes of Mount Pleasant, Mich., Rebecca (and Marvin) Westlake of Mount Carmel, Diane (and Gary) Westlake of Bader and Julie (and Bill) Troutman of Rushville; one son, Scott Fairburn of Astoria; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; honorary children, Ron and Melinda Parsano of Vermont; six honorary grandchildren; nine honorary great-grandchildren; and one honorary great-great-grandchild.

He held several jobs over the years and retired from AMAX Sunspot Mine, where he worked for 23 years.

He was an Army veteran serving from 1945-46 as a military police officer.

He was a member of UMWA Union and former member of the IOOF Lodge and Moose Lodge.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Ted Shirley officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the memorial home.

Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria with military rites provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
