Eldon Lee Bucy, 97, of Macomb, formerly of Vermont, died at 5:06 p.m. Nov. 8, 2024, at Wesley Village in Macomb.
He was born Oct. 30, 1927, in Vermont, a son of John William and Erma Horner Bucy. He married Bertha A. Pepmeyer on Nov. 18, 1950, in Camp Stewart, Ga. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2023.
He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Benjamin (surviving wife Kate) Martin; eight siblings, Mary June McCormick, Otis Bucy, Wayne Bucy, Ansel Bucy, Henry Bucy, John Bucy, Clair Bucy and George Bucy; and six half-siblings, Dorothy Hughes, Vera Brillhart, Lela Mendenhall, Boyd Bucy, Ernest Bucy and Charles Bucy.
Surviving are two sons, Jim (and Judy Burnette) Bucy of Springfield and Mike (and Barb) Bucy of South Jacksonville; one daughter, Diana (and the late Jim) Martin of Matthews, N.C.; one sister, Betty Ricketts of Chandler, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was an Army veteran, serving in occupied Japan and also for the Illinois National Guard.
He was a farmer. He also worked at Pioneer Seeds and at the Physical Plant at Western Illinois University. He was a member of the Vermont American Legion, where he served as Past Commander, a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau and Vermont United Methodist Church.
Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reverend Robert Greene officiating. Burial was in the Vermont Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Vermont American Legion.
