John BucyJohn W. Bucy, 88, of Astoria died at 3:55 p.m. Aug. 16, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born March 3, 1930, in Vermont, a son of John and Erma Horner Bucy. He married Dorothy A. “Dot” Schisler on Nov. 20, 1955, in Astoria. She preceded him in death on Dec. 11, 2000.

He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Mark Bucy; one step grandson, Mike Belden; one step great-grandson, Cole Posey; one sister, Mary-June McCormick; six brothers, Otis, Wayne, Ansel, Henry, Clair and George Bucy; three half-sisters, Dorothy Hughes, Vera Brillhart and Lela Mendonhall; and three half-brothers, Boyd, Ernest and Charles Bucy.

Surviving are two sons, Steven Bucy of Table Grove and John Lance Bucy of Astoria; one brother, Eldon (and Bertha) Bucy of Vermont; one sister, Betty Ricketts of Chandler, Ariz.; four grandchildren; one step grandchild; six great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

He worked at Ken-Ray Foundry in Vermont, International Harvester in Canton and NAVISTAR in Indianapolis, Ind., retiring June 30, 1999.

He was in the Army National Guard.

He was a 1950 graduate of VIT High School. He was a member of the Astoria American Legion Post #25 and Astoria United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reverend Robert Greene officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.
