Vera BrillhartVera Evelyn Bucy Brillhart, 98, of Springfield, formerly of Williamsville and Rushville, died at 2:38 p.m. July 6, 2010, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born July 7, 1911, in Vermont, a daughter of John W. and Lena Plate Bucy. When she was age 2, her mother passed away and her father married Erma Horner in 1914. She married William Brinton in 1928 and they later divorced. In 1938, she married Lyle Brillhart in Havana. He preceded her in death in April 1954.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Norma Jean Standard; 17 brothers; and one sister.

Surviving are one son, Harvey W. (and Dorothy) Brinton of Galesburg; three daughters, Mary (and Don) Root of Rushville, Leona Dorethy of Springfield and Shirley (and Lloyd) Smith of Sherman; two sisters, June McCormick of Rushville and Betty Ricketts of Arizona; two brothers, Eldon (and Bertha) Bucy of Vermont and Johnny Bucy of Astoria; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-great-grandchildren.

She attended school through the eighth grade, as she was needed to help at home. She worked on the family farm and took care of her siblings.

In the 1930s, she began working at the Dennis Chicken Factory in Augusta for over 25 years. In 1962, she moved to Galesburg and managed the Northside Laundry and Laundromat. She worked at the Care Center of Colchester beginning in 1973 and also provided childcare for her grandchildren in Rushville. She retired and moved to Williamsville in 1988 and recently moved to Timberlake Estates Senior Assisted Living in Springfield.

She was a member for over 50 years of the Ladies of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Augusta and a member of Williamsville Christian Church.

Services were held Friday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Curt Daniels officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
