Howard J. Lau, Astoria Died Monday in Hospital

Howard J. Lau, 44, in failing health the last two years, died early Monday in the Graham hospital.

Prior to moving to this area 12 years ago he resided in Havana. He was a coal miner.

Born Oct. 17, 1913, in Summum, a son of Frank and Louisa (Hughes) Lau, he was married in Havana, on Oct. 3, 1936, to Bessie Pettitt, who survives.

Surviving also are four children, Larry, Patty, Lonnie and Billy, all at home; two brothers, Frank Lau, in Canton and Elmer, in Chapin; three sisters, Mrs. Rose Vaughn, in Astoria, and Mrs. Nellie Ford and Mrs. Florine Trone, both in Pleasant View and two half-sisters, Mrs. Mamie McMullen in Havana, and Mrs. Ida Thompson, in Astoria. A son in infancy, a brother and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon in the Christian church by the pastor, the Rev. Lee Carter Maynard. Mr. Lau was a member of the Christian church. Burial in Laurel Hill cemetery at Havana.

The Shawgo Memorial Home had charge of the services.
