BENJAMIN FRANKLIN “FRANK” LAU

VeteranB. Franklin Lau Of Canton Dies

B. Franklin Lau, 75, Canton, Route 1, was dead on arrival at 2:05 a.m. Thursday at Graham Hospital.

Born Feb. 22, 1898* in Fulton County, the son of Frank and Louisa (Hughes) Lau, he was married Sept. 13, 1918 in Macon, Ga. to Helen Curless who survives.

He retired in January, 1962, from International Harvester with 32 years service. He was a member of the UAW-CIO, VFW, Loyal Order of Moose and served in the U.S. Army during World War I.

One daughter, Mrs. Freida (Gordon) Lewis of Canton also survives along with one grandchild, one great-grandchild, a sister, Mrs. Rose Vaughn of Canton, and one half-sister, Mrs. Ida Thompson of Astoria. One son, three sisters, one half-sister, two brothers and one half-brother died earlier.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Murphy Memorial Home in Canton with Rev. Darrell Harrison officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

[Laura’s note: His published obituary indicated a birth year of 1898, but other records — including his WWII draft registration card, which he signed himself — state a birth year of 1896.
Additional information submitted by Lonnie (Lau) Weinstein indicates that “Helen traveled via train to the army base in Macon, Ga., with Louisa (Frank’s mother) to marry Frank before he deployed overseas.”]
