Willis Derry

ASTORIA — Willis J. “Buck” Derry, 76, of Astoria died at 6:51 p.m. Monday in Mason District Hospital, Havana.

Born Jan. 14, 1909, near Astoria to Newton B. and Pearle Gould Derry, he married Doris Welker April 9, 1931, in Mount Sterling.

He worked at International Harvester Co. in Canton 34 years before retiring in 1969. He was a member of the Summum Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Joan) Little of Marion, Mrs. Ray (Barbara) Hamm of Ipava, Mrs. Jack (Carolyn) Anderson of Springfield, Va., Mrs. Gary (Marilee) Griffin of Springfield and Mrs. Wayne (Donna) Layne of Peoria; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers, Ben, Otis and Donald Derry, all of Astoria, and Bernard Derry of East Peoria; and three sisters, Mrs. Darlene Waggoner and Mrs. Dorothy Brillhart, both of Astoria, and Mrs. Fern Conner of Groveland, Calif. One brother preceded him in death. 

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Shawgo Memorial Home. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in his church, the Rev. Roger Koster officiating. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery.
