Mrs. Shirley “Joan” (Derry) Little, 89, of Marion died of natural causes at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Vickie Little in Franklin, Ky., on June 5, 2021.Mrs. Shirley “Joan” (Derry) Little, 89, of Marion died of natural causes at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Vickie Little in Franklin, Ky., on June 5, 2021.
She was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Astoria, a daughter of Willis and Doris Welker Derry. She married Phillip L. Little on Nov. 19, 1952, in Astoria. He preceded her in death.
She also was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Pearl Anderson.
Surviving are two sons, Mike (and Vickie) of Franklin, Ky., and Ron (and Penny) of Lexington, Ky.; three sisters, Barbara Jean Hamm of Ipava, Marilee Griffin of Aurora, Ohio, and Donna Lyne of Peoria; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Astoria High School in 1949.
Sewing was always a part of Joan’s life, beginning with projects for home and friends and later growing into a full-time career. She was a skilled tailor and longtime alterations seamstress for Joyce’s Bridal Boutique in Marion, eventually managing the shop as well. She outfitted the Marion High School Dance Team for many years.
She was a longtime member of Third Baptist Church in Marion.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Wilson-Reynolds Funeral Home in Marion. A family graveside burial service will be held later in the fall in Astoria.
