Dorothy Brillhart

Dorothy L. Brillhart, 97, of Canton, formerly of Astoria, died at 1 p.m. July 25, 2010, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Canton.

She was born May 10, 1913, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, a daughter of Newton B. and Pearl Gould Derry. She married Galen F. Brillhart on Aug. 19, 1933, in Canton. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1987.

She also was preceded in death by two daughters, one granddaughter, two sisters and six brothers.

Surviving are one daughter, Harriet (and Bill) Lockard of Canton; one son, Randall (and Jan) Brillhart of Waynesburg, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She farmed with her husband until 1966 when they retired from farming and moved to Astoria. She then ran “Dot’s Upholster Shop” on Main Street in Astoria for many years.

She was a member of Astoria Christian Church for over 60 years, serving as Sunday school teacher and custodian.

She and her husband lived in the Astoria area all their lives until 2008 when it was necessary for her to move to Heartland Healthcare in Canton.

Services were held Saturday at her church with Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery in Astoria. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
