John Anderson Jr.

John C. “Jack” Anderson Jr., 80, of Astoria died at 5:40 p.m. Jan. 26, 2014, at Prairieview Care Center in Lewistown.

He was born May 7, 1933, in Chicago, a son of John C. and Eleanor M. Gibson Anderson Jr. He married Carolyn Derry on May 29, 1954, in Astoria. He later married Leola Foster on Feb. 17, 1996, in Carrollton. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Melinda Whitley of Burke, Va., Cherill Anderson of Fairfax, Va., and Tracy Hughes of Kennebunkport, Maine; one sister, Linda Olson of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one brother, Mark Anderson of Santa Rose, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was in the United States Military Air Force from May 28, 1952, until his retirement on Aug. 31, 1975. He served overseas in the Philippines, Okinawa, Japan and Vicenes, Italy. He then served in the civilian Air Force at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, from Aug. 31, 1977, to Oct. 1, 1995.

He was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Services will be held at a later date. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
