Earl Briney, 82, Of Browning Dies

Earl BrineyEarl Briney, 82, of rural Browning died 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 1990, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Nov. 12, 1907, in Kerton Township, a son of Edward and Mary Louderback Briney. He married Bernice Hamm on Feb. 4, 1933, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Earl “Dennis” of rural Browning; one daughter-in-law, Peggy Ann DeRenzy Briney; one granddaughter, Patricia D. Briney; one sister, Mrs. Dallas (Eva) Hamm of Astoria; four brothers, Ernest Briney of Adair, Elden Briney of Browning, Oliver Briney of Peoria, and Otis Briney of Macomb.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Douglas Dean Briney.

He had been the Hickory Township road commissioner for 40 years before retiring in 1989. He also was engaged in farming and trucking in Browning. He was a member of the Laborers International Union of North America No. 253 and was a past fire chief of the Hickory-Kerton Fire Protection District. He bowled for several years on the Wednesday night league at Havana Bowl.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, with Collis Trone officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hickory-Kerton Fire Protection District.
