Mrs. Mary Briney Dies At Age 87

Mrs. Mary Briney, 87, of Adair, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 1975, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

Mrs. Briney was born on Aug. 5, 1888, at Sheldons Grove, a daughter of Chauncey and Barbara Rawley Lauderbeck. She married Edward Briney in 1905. He is deceased.

She was a cook at Camp Ellis and was a member of the New Salem Christian Church.

Survivors include five sons, Earl and Eldon, both of Browning, Ernest of Adair, Oliver of Peoria, and Otis of Macomb; one daughter, Mrs. Eva Hamm of Astoria; 10 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Truman of Sterling, Colo.; and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Sharp, also of Sterling. Four brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Sheldons Grove Cemetery.

[Laura's note: Based on my research, I believe her maiden name was actually "Lauderback", and I have indexed it as such. Several of her children's obits also list "Louderback".]
