Dennis BrineyDennis Briney, 87, of Bluff City died at 8:04 p.m. Dec. 16, 2020, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.

He was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Bluff City, the son of Earl and Bernice Hamm Briney. He married Peggy Ann DeRenzy on April 20, 1958, in Bushnell. She preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 2011.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Briney.

Surviving are one daughter, Patricia (and Stan) Briney-Schisler of Browning; three step grandchildren, Aaron (and Becky) Pierson, Stan (and Jennifer) Schisler Jr. and Kimber Schisler; and five step great-grandchildren.

He was owner/operator of Earl and Earl D. Trucking, founder of ED Double P Incorporated, and farmed, earning the 2019 Master Farmer of the Year for Schuyler County.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1953-57, at the end of the Korean War, where he took the world tour aboard the USS Cowell Destroyer.

He was a member of the Havana Bowling Hall of Fame, Hickory-Kerton Fire Department, was founder and president of the Hickory-Kerton Water District, the Multi Township tax assessor for Schuyler County, a member of the Hickory Township Cemetery Board, the Astoria American Legion Post #25 and the Astoria Lions Club.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial was in Bluff City Cemetery with military rites by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. A Celebration of Life will be held next summer.
