Pius E. Wherley Of Ipava Dies

Pius E. Wherley, 78, of Ipava, a retired farmer, died Thursday at 10:23 a.m. at McDonough District Hospital.

Mr. Wherley was born July 29, 1893, in Astoria, the son of Edward C. and Susie I. Burgard Wherley. On July 5, 1913, he married Laura E. Louderback at Lewistown. She survives.

He was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Astoria and the IOOF Lodge at Vermont.

In addition to his widow he is survived by five sons, Wendell Wherley of Table Grove, Richard and Harold Wherley, both of Salem, Ore., James Wherley of Bloomington and Donald Wherley of Industry; four daughters, Mrs. Roy (Lois Lee) Haney of Industry, Mrs. Bruce (Ann) Coven of Peoria, Mrs. Wendell (Wanda) Danner of Astoria and Mrs. Don (Peggy) Ross of Beloit, Wis.; three brothers, John Wherley of Canton, and Homer and Ralph Wherley, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

A son and three brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Ipava with Rev. Gary Garretson officiating. Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery near Astoria.
