Harold D. “Babe” Wherley, 59, of Woodburn, Ore., formerly of Table Grove, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, in Arizona.

He was born May 26, 1937, in Macomb, a son of Pius and Laura E. Lauderback Wherley. He married Mary Laverty in 1988. He later married Carol Bohm. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey of Oregon City, Ore. and Stephen of Salem, Ore.; one daughter, Laura Elizabeth Sheldon of Hubbard, Ore.; three brothers, Don Wherley of Industry, Wendall Wherley of Table Grove and Jim Wherley of Bloomington; four sisters, Peggy Ross of Beloit, Wis., Lois Haney of Industry, Ann Coven of Peoria and Wanda Himmel of Topeka; and five grandchildren.

He lived in Canby, Ore., for 22 years and Woodburn for two years. He served in the Navy from 1955 to 1963. He was a member of Canby American Legion in Canby, the Elks Lodge and the Eagles Lodge. He worked for United Airlines in Portland as a storekeeper for many years, retiring in 1991. He also was a landscaper in the Canby area for 15 years.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Canby Funeral Chapel in Canby. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Zion Memorial Park Cemetery in Canby.
