Pius Wendell Wherley, 79, of Table Grove, died at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, in the emergency room of McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born April 9, 1918, in Farmers Township, Fulton County, a son of Pius and Laura E. Louderback Wherley. He married Marjorie Palmer on Feb. 23, 1946, in Quincy. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Beverly Yocum of Chatham; two sons, Daniel Wherley of South Vienna, Ohio, and Larry Wherley of Indianapolis; four sisters, Lois Haney of Industry, Ann Coven of Peoria, Wanda Himmel of Topeka and Peggy Ross of Beloit, Wis.; two brothers, James Wherley of Bloomington and Donald Wherley of Macomb; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

He worked at Table Grove Elevator. He later worked for International Harvester Co. in Canton for 25 years, retiring in 1981. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Rushville American Legion Post 4 and 40 et 8, Voiture 1100, in Rushville.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Richard Stone officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.
