Margaret Hopping

Margaret C. Hopping, 88, of Industry, died at 6:42 p.m. Jan. 17, 2013, in McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

She was born April 21, 1924, in Vermont, a daughter of Ralph Cleveland and Fern Marie Derry McCormick. She married Clifford E. Hopping on Oct. 11, 1941, in Astoria. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1968.

She also was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Gary Hopping; three brothers, Dwight, Gene and Alonzo McCormick; three sisters, Marjorie Sawin, Opal Phillips and an infant; and two stepbrothers, Otis and Devere Derry.

Surviving are three daughters, Donna (and Jerry) VanOpdorp of Atkinson, Sue (and John) Taylor of Abingdon and Ilene (and Bob) Bearce of Macomb; three sons, Donald Hopping of Table Grove, Leroy Hopping of the state of Texas and Chuck Hopping of Industry; two brothers, Charles McCormick of Colona and Dorvan (and Verna) McCormick of Astoria; four sisters, Bernice Sharpe of Cuba, Shirley (and Jim) Di Crose of Arvada, Colo., Josephene James of Macomb and Virginia McCombs of Astoria; 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was a seamstress at Blue Bell in Bushnell. She also cooked for over 15 years at Western Illinois University in Macomb.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Doug Kuster officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery.
