Marjorie Sawin

Marjorie H. Sawin, 84, of Astoria, formerly of Rushville, died at 10:50 a.m. Nov. 14, 2006, at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center in Astoria.

She was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Astoria, a daughter of Ralph C. and Fern Marie Derry McCormick. She married Rex Gillenwater on Sept. 19, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. He died Feb. 20, 1945. She later married Francis B. Sawin on Aug. 7, 1958, in Astoria. He died Feb. 5, 1980.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers and two half brothers.

Surviving are one son, Randall Eugene Gillenwater of El Cajon, Calif.; two brothers, Dorvan McCormick of Astoria and Charles McCormick of Colona; six sisters, Virginia McCombs of Astoria, Margaret Hopping of Industry, Opal Phillips of Marietta, Bernice Sharpe of Cuba, Shirley DiCroce of Denver, Colo., and Josephine James of Macomb; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was a waitress, retiring in 1982.

There will be no services. Inurnment will be in Astoria Cemetery at a later date. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
