Charles McCormickCharles J. McCormick, 89, of Colona died March 21, 2016, at Genesis Medical Center in Silvis.

He was born April 12, 1926, in Astoria, a son of Ralph and Fern Derry McCormick. He married Dorothy L. Johnson on Aug. 10, 1949, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death in 2007.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Littlefield; one son, Jeff; three brothers, Dwight, Jean and Alonzo; and four sisters, Marjorie, Opal, Margaret and Beatrice.

Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Lugwig of Marietta, Cindy (and Mick) Painter of Colona and Margaret (and Pete Jarvis) Gardner of LeClaire, Iowa; one son, Richard (and Frances) McCormick of Barstow; four sisters, Virginia McCombs of Astoria, Shirley (and James) Dicroce of Denver, Colo., Josephine James of Macomb and Bernice Sharpe of Cuba; one brother, Dorvan (and Verna) McCormick of Astoria; two half brothers, Derry Otis and Devere; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He retired in 1985 after 49 years at the Rock Island Arsenal. He was a coach for the Dodger Dad’s Club Baseball Team for 16 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Graveside services were held Friday at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, where the Colona American Legion conducted military honors. Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd. in East Moline was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Twin Rivers Little League in Colona.
