DeVere D. Derry Of Morton Dies

DeVere D. Derry, 67, of 108 Mulberry Drive, Morton, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 6, 1982, at Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

Born Sept. 4, 1914, in Vermont, the son of Ralph and Fern Derry McCormick, he married Nina Easley June 30, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Melba Grieder of Congerville; three grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; four brothers, Charles McCormick of Green Rock, Alonzo McCormick of Edgewood, Md., Gene McCormick of Dickenson, Tex., and Dorvan McCormick of Astoria; and seven sisters, Mrs. Opal Phillips of Marietta, Mrs. Bernice Sharpe of Cuba, Mrs. Virginia McCombs of Astoria, Mrs. Shirley DiCroice of Arvada, Colo., Mrs. Josephine James of Bushnell, Mrs. Margaret Hopping of Industry and Mrs. Marjorie Sawin of Fort Myers, Fla.

He was a truck driver for the Rogers Cartage Co. of Pekin for 35 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 627 and the Morton Christian Church.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Johnny Arnold officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
