She was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Vermont, a daughter of Theodore Roosevelt and Lucille Brown Hickle. She married Whitney Mercer. She later married Oniley Farwell on Nov. 27, 1968, in Las Vegas, Nev. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2010.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Bruce Mercer; one daughter, Jeanette Walters; five brothers, Gilbert, Stanley, James, Richard and Steven Hickle; two sisters, Peggy Holmes and Laura Hickle; and one step grandchild.
Surviving are one stepdaughter, Mary (and Ernie) Douglas of Havana; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous step great-grandchildren.
She was a cosmetologist and beautician. She also worked as a waitress at Wilbur’s Coffee Cup and Jeanie’s Kountry Kitchen, both in Astoria.
She was a member of Astoria Christian Church and the Fulton County Home Extension.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Darrin Fish officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery in Astoria.
