Virginia BeckVirginia Lee Beck, 81, of Astoria died at 1:20 p.m. Jan. 16, 2007, at home.

She was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Bluff City, a daughter of Grover C. and Golda M. Dixon Briney. She married Luther H. Beck on Feb. 12, 1950, in Astoria. He died Sept. 9, 2000.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Severns; and three brothers, James, Woodrow and an infant.

Surviving are one daughter, Lisa Beck of Igo, Calif.; and one brother, John Briney of Havana.

She was a homemaker.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service for Virginia Lee Briney Beck, 81, of Astoria, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Eric Trone officiating. A reception will follow the service at the South Fulton Senior Center, 108 W. Broadway, Astoria.

She was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Bluff City, a daughter of Grover and Golda Dixon Briney. She married Luther Harold Beck on Feb. 12, 1950, in Astoria. He died Sept. 9, 2000.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Severns; and three brothers, Woodrow Briney, James Briney and Howard Briney.

Surviving are one daughter, Lisa of Igo, Calif.; and one brother, John Briney of Havana.

She was a lifelong resident of Fulton County. She graduated from Astoria High School in 1942.

She was a porcelain artist who specialized in restoring antique dolls. She also taught classes in china painting and doll making.

Burial will be in Sheldons Grove Cemetery at a later date.
