James Dixon Briney, 65, of Indianapolis, formerly of Havana, died Monday, Oct. 9, 1995, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 2, 1930 in Rushville, a son of Grover Cleveland and Goldie Dixon Briney. He married Carol Janice Curtis on June 29, 1952. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jay M. of Havana and James C. of Indianapolis; two daughters, Janice L. Briney of Indianapolis and Gerene L. Vaughn of Pekin; four grandchildren; one brother, John of Havana; and one sister, Virginia Beck of Astoria.

He worked for Navistar International for 27 years before retiring. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union in Indianapolis. A Korean War Air Force veteran, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Havana and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria.

Graveside services, with interment of cremains, were held Friday at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Cremation has been accorded. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children.
