Carol BrineyCarol Janice Briney, 85, of Havana died at 9:15 a.m. Oct. 1, 2018, at her residence.

She was born June 30, 1933, in Ray, a daughter of Guy and Grace Potter Curtis. She married James Briney on June 29, 1952, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1995.

She also was preceded in death by one son, James Curtis Briney; three brothers, Lyle Edward Curtis, William Eugene “Gene” Curtis and Donald Curtis; and five sisters, Lura Tomlinson, Leona Ford, Marjorie Sayer, Madeline Odgen and Melba Phillips.

Surviving are three children, Janice Briney, Jeri (and Lloyd “Tink”) Vaughn and Jay (and Robyn) Briney, all of Havana; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She worked as a postmaster at Ray Post Office in the 1970s until they closed.

Burial will be held at a later date at Phillips Cemetery in Oakland Township. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes and Crematory in Canton.
