Carolyn Severns of Astoria Dies

Mrs. Carolyn Severns, 69, of Astoria, died at 8:58 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 1985, in Graham Hospital, Canton.

She was born Feb. 19, 1915, in Bluff City, a daughter of Grover and Goldie Dixon Briney. She married Carl E. Severns June 29, 1935, in Rushville. He died May 16, 1970.

One daughter, her father, and one brother also preceded her in death.

She was employed by France Insurance Co. 35 years, was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and Astoria Chapter 144 Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are her mother, and one sister, Mrs. Luther (Virginia) Beck, both of Canton; three brothers, James and John Briney of Havana, and Woodrow Briney of Ipava.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Astoria United Methodist Church by Rev. Bruce W. Bolin Ghitalia using scripture verses and reading a poem requested by Mrs. Severns. Burial was in the Sheldons Grove Cemetery. Cremation rites were accorded.

Memorials may be made to the church in her honor.
