Robert BollingerRobert E. Bollinger, 73, of Astoria died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at his home.

He was born April 3, 1932, in Browning, a son of Luther and Leona Vaughn Bollinger. He married Leona A. Humphrey on Oct. 18, 1952, in Astoria. She died Oct. 20, 1995.

He also was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Lou Bird.

Surviving are four sons, Bill (and Denise) and Rick, both of Astoria, Randy (and Connie) of Browning and Jeff (and Tammy) of Summum; one daughter, Paula Bollinger of Astoria; three sisters, Charlotte Norton of Rushville, Betty Ann Norton of Beardstown and Freida Stambaugh of Astoria; two brothers, Richard of Rushville and Eugene of Canton; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1952 to 1954 with the rank of corporal.

He retired from Peabody Coal Co. in 1982. He then worked at Bollinger Welding Co. in Astoria and L&N Industries in Rushville, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of United Mine Workers of America.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reggie Stambaugh officiating. Burial will be in Browning Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
