Ezra Burgard

Ezra W. Burgard, 97, of Ipava, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Jan. 26, 1901, near Ipava, a son of Eli and Maggie Ellen Weber Burgard. He married Lola W. Littleton on July 24, 1920. She died Feb. 7, 1956.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorla, one grandson, one great-great-granddaughter and three brothers.

He later married Velma Jennings on Aug. 3, 1956, in Quincy. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Dale of Lewistown; one daughter, Margaret Mayall of Union, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Clara Easley of Vermont and Vera Simpson of Park Ridge.

In the auto industry for 80 years, he owned Burgard Chevrolet Co. in Ipava for the last 70 years. He was a member of the National Automobile Dealers Association. A 50-year member of Ipava Masonic Lodge 213, AF&AM, he also was a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star Lodge 226. He was a member of the Mohammed Temple, Shrine, in Peoria; Lamoine Valley Shrine Club in Macomb; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; and the Illinois Valley Shrine Club in Beardstown.

He was a member of United Presbyterian Church, where services were held Saturday with Rev. Kevin Kessler officiating. Masonic services were conducted. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava was in charge of arrangements.
