DALE D. BURGARD

Dale BurgardDale D. Burgard, 90, of Lewistown died at 7:10 p.m. Dec. 28, 2011, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.

He was born July 24, 1921, in Ipava, the son of Ezra and Lola Littleton Burgard. He married Maralee Hendee on May 21, 1945, in Canton. She survives.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dr. Steven Burgard; and two sisters, Dorla Lundeen and Margaret Mayall.

He was an automobile salesman at Burgard Chevrolet in Ipava for 45 years and had received recognition from Chevrolet for being an outstanding salesperson.

He served as Sgt. in the U.S. Army Timberwolf Division. He served in the European Theater of England, France, Belgium, Holland and Normandy during World War II. He received the Bronze Star Medal.

He was a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church.

He was a 50-year member of Ipava American Legion, 50-year member and past patron of Ipava Chapter of OES, 50-year member of Macomb Elks 1009. He also was a member of Ipava Masonic Lodge, Mohammed Shrine and Peoria Consistory.

Services were held Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Danie deBeer officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery with military services conducted by Harold C. Hoopes American Legion Post 17 in Ipava.
