VELMA M. (JENNINGS) BURGARD

Velma Burgard

Velma M. Burgard, 87, of Ipava died at 6:20 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2001, at Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb.

She was born Sept. 13, 1913, in Carlinville, the daughter of Grover and Belle Killam Jennings. She married Ezra Burgard on Aug. 3, 1956, in Quincy. He died Dec. 2, 1998.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, one stepdaughter, one step-grandson and one step-great-grandchild.

Surviving are one stepson, Dale (and Maralee) Burgard of Lewistown; one stepdaughter, Margaret (and Willis) Mayall of Union, Mo.; nine step-grandchildren; 23 step-great-grandchildren; eight step-great-great-grandchildren; two nieces; and three nephews.

She was the owner/operator of Velma's Grocery and, later, owner/operator of Burgard Chevrolet, both in Ipava.

She was a member of Ipava Presbyterian Church and the National Auto Dealers Association.

Services were held Sunday at her church with Pastor Kevin Kessler officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Ipava American Legion Post #17 or the Ipava Rescue Squad.
