CLARA A. (BURGARD) EASLEY

Clara Easley

Clara A. Easley, 96, of Vermont died at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at Astoria Gardens in Astoria.

She was born April 3, 1906, in Pleasant Township, Fulton County, a daughter of Eli and Maggie Weber Burgard. She married Kenneth R. Easley on Aug. 26, 1926, in Springfield. He died March 11, 1986.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Azbell, and four brothers.

Surviving are one daughter, Marilyn (and Richard) Southwood of Pekin; one son, Norman (and Sally) of Bay Shore, N.Y.; one sister, Vera (and Leroy) Simpson of Park Ridge; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She had been a rural school teacher at Whealdon, Etnire and Mulberry schools in the Ipava area. She also was a partner with her husband, farming in the Vermont and Ipava areas.

She was a 50-year member and past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Ipava Chapter 226.

She also was a member of Washington Sewing Circle, Pleasant Dale Community Association, Vermont Women's Club and the HEA Home Extension Unit of Fulton County.

She was a member of Ipava Presbyterian Church, where she taught the Katherine Sunday school class.

Services were held Saturday at her church with Rev. Bill Bodamer officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava was in charge of arrangements.
