Richard “Dick” Southwood

Dick SouthwoodRichard L. “Dick” Southwood, 87, of Pekin, formerly of Fulton County, died at 6:05 a.m. Feb. 7, 2020, at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria.

He was born Oct. 14, 1932, in rural Lewistown, a son of Hubert and Irma Nall Southwood. He married Marilyn Easley on Dec. 11, 1955, in Ipava. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Michael (and Janet) Southwood of Canton, Neil (and Cheril Hammond) Southwood of Parrish, Fla., and Klayton (and Tonya) Southwood of Secor; one sister, Judy DeMoss of Canton; three half-brothers, James (and Janet) Dillow, Gerald (and Jane Hobbs) Southwood and Gary (and Delores) Southwood; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one half-brother, Ronald Southwood.

He worked at Illinois Bell Telephone for 22 years, then State Farm Insurance as an agent for 22 years.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Pekin where he had served in various offices and taught a Sunday school class and a 65-year member of the Ipava Masonic Lodge #213 AF and AM.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 14, at First Christian Church in Pekin. Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery at a later date. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
