Gladys Wherley Of Abingdon Dies

Gladys M. Wherley, 84, of Abingdon, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 1985, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg.

Born Feb. 12, 1901, in Vermont to James and Sarah Hickle Ring, she married George Wherley on Oct. 5, 1918, in Iowa. He died on July 5, 1956.

Surviving are one son, Ronald (Jack) Wherley of Abingdon; three daughters, Mrs. Burdette (Dorothy) Stegall of Abingdon, Mrs. James (Margaret) Howard of Glendive, Mont., and Mrs. John (Shirley) Dixon of Jackson, Mich.; one brother, Tom Ring of Abingdon; two sisters, Mattie Alteen of Abingdon and Mayme Van Fossen of Rushville; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

She moved to Galesburg in 1927 after spending her early years in the Vermont area. She lived in Abingdon since 1974.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Oak Lawn Memorial Garden in Galesburg.
