William Van Fossen Dies At Age 89

William J. VanFossen, 89, of Vermont died at 10 a.m. Friday in Culbertson Hospital, Rushville.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Vermont United Methodist Church with Rev. E. L. Dunavin officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery.

He was born April 15, 1881, at West Shoales, Ind., the son of Smith and Lucinda Gray VanFossen. On March 1, 1901, he married Mayme B. Ring near Astoria. She survives. Mr. VanFossen was a retired coal miner.

Survivors are his widow; four sons, Paul and Clyde, both of Vermont, Earl of Ipava and Dale of Galesburg; one daughter, Mrs. Lela Chockley of Galesburg; 16 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter and four sisters.
