Donald Orion Trone, 88, of Lewistown died at 7:50 p.m. June 27, 2007, at his home.

He was born Jan. 16, 1919, in Browning, a son of Carl A. and Bertha Addie Kinnear Trone. He married Ruby Hillyer on April 12, 1945, in Rushville.

Surviving are one son, Alan of Lewistown; two daughters, Jane (and John) Dickerson of Naples, Fla., and Alice (and Tom) Proffer of Bradenton, Fla.; three sisters, Madeline Dunlap of Macomb, Marcella (and David) Taylor of Rushville and Jean Sieber of Mount Carroll; two brothers, Glen (and Vivian) of Walnut and Howard (and Shirley) of Rushville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was in the U.S. Army, serving with Patton’s 3rd Army. He was taken prisoner in France on Aug. 4, 1944, and released Sept. 18, 1944.

He was a union carpenter, retiring from UBC Local #644 of Pekin.

He was a member of Lewistown American Legion Post #1, United Brotherhood of Carpenters since 1953, past president of Macomb Local #1883, election board of Waterford Township, charter member of the Peoria Chapter of National State American Ex-POWS, Fulton County Farm Bureau, superintendent of Pennington Point Methodist Church in Adair, lifetime member of Ridgeville Church of Browning, and owner and operator of the Hilltop Pony Farm in Lewistown.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Ridgeville Cemetery in Browning with military honors conducted by Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Memorials may be made to the hematology/oncology department of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, or to the Ex-POW Chapter.
