Opal StambaughOpalene (Opal) Stambaugh, 80, of Astoria died Aug. 3, 2026, at The Lamoine in Macomb.

She was born Dec. 15, 1945, in Astoria, a daughter of Orville and Fern Thomas Trone. She married Virgil L. Stambaugh on May 29, 1963, in Astoria. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2016.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Todd Stambaugh; one daughter, Jenny Hendricks; two grandchildren, Amanda and Joshua Hendricks; three great-grandsons, Dakota, Archer and Ransom Corrick; and three sisters, Rosemary Williams, Ruth Trone and Dorothy Plate.

Surviving are one daughter, Jody (and Kevin) Kolves of Astoria; one son, Tim (and Shannon) Stambaugh of Bardolph; three sisters, Jeanette Hopkins and Ida (and Dave) Clark, both of Astoria, and June (and David) Hicke of Glasford; two brothers, Tom (and Pam) Trone and Steve (and Marian) Trone, both of Astoria; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She had many jobs throughout her life, including working at Webster Industries and Walmart in Macomb, being a licensed carpenter and helping to build the Treatment and Detention Facility in Rushville, a farmer, holding a Commercial Drivers License and being the owner and operator, along with Virgil, of Virgil’s Kerr McGee in Astoria.

She was a member of the Astoria Christian Church where she taught Sunday school.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Matthew Thiner officiating. Visitation will take place Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery, Astoria.
