Gus Schnarr Jr.Gus L. Schnarr Jr., 86, of Lewistown died July 13, 2011, at his home.

He was born April 6, 1925, in rural Marietta, a son of Gustav and Bertha Brown Schnarr Sr. He married Rosalee V. Derry on Sept. 25, 1944, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Linda (and Larry) Smith of New Palestine, Ind., Lorenda (and Alvin) Spilker of Lewistown and Mary Sue (and Allan) Woodruff of Cuba; one brother, Harold (and Willa) Schnarr of Canton; five sisters, Genevieve (and Lew) Belville of Lewistown, Pat (and Bob) McClosky of Iowa, Creta (and Richard) Harper of Chillicothe, Betty (and Rudy) Wilson of Alabama and Darlene (the late Richard) Heffren of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Lyndel Schnarr; one brother, Burton Schnarr; and one sister, Geraldine Hilton.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed at Camp Ellis.

He worked for Caterpillar at the East Peoria plant retiring after 32 years. He also was a former car salesman.

He was a member of Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1.

Services were held Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Paul Newhall officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with military services conducted by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1.
